For years, New Zealand Internships has been dedicated to helping young professionals kickstart their careers with meaningful internships in New Zealand. But how did our journey begin?

May 2005.

The Founding Vision

The story of New Zealand Internships started with two friends, Ronald and Marcel, who completed their overseas internships as part of their degree in the Caribbean. While soaking up the sun on the beach, they had a lightbulb moment: why not bring this life-changing experience to New Zealand? Realizing that no other company was offering such a service in New Zealand, they were inspired to fill this gap. Driven by their passion for helping others, they even wrote their thesis on launching the company, making it a key part of their degree journey.

March 2007.

The Birth of New Zealand Internships

In September 2007, Ronald and Marcel transformed their vision into reality by officially establishing New Zealand Internships. What started as a spark of inspiration on a Caribbean beach evolved into a dynamic company dedicated to providing transformative internship experiences in New Zealand. Their commitment to bridging the gap for international students and young professionals laid the foundation for a service that would soon help countless individuals kickstart their careers with meaningful, hands-on opportunities.

Jan 2008.

The First Interns

In January 2008, New Zealand Internships proudly welcomed its first cohort of international interns to companies based in Auckland. At this early stage, our focus was solely on placing overseas candidates, as local universities and companies in New Zealand were just beginning to explore the concept of internships.

Jan 2018.

A Recognised Leader

A decade later, in January 2018, New Zealand Internships celebrated a significant milestoneโ€”successfully placing over 4,000 candidates from across the world in diverse industries across New Zealand. Our commitment to providing exceptional internship opportunities has made us a Recognised Leader in Internship Placements for both domestic and international students and recent graduates, helping them gain valuable experience to launch their careers.

April 2020.

Covid

During the COVID-19 pandemic, from early 2020 onwards, New Zealand’s borders were closed, and internship placements became extremely limited. This challenging period saw a significant slowdown in our operations, as travel restrictions and health concerns took precedence. Despite these obstacles, we focused on supporting a small number of domestic candidates with (remote) placements, ensuring they were well-prepared for the resurgence of global opportunities.

July 2024.

Here we are

By July 2024, New Zealand Internships proudly reached a milestone of assisting over 6,000 candidates. While the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic had set us back, we are thrilled to be back on our feet and regaining momentum. Our commitment to connecting talent with opportunities remains as strong as ever, and weโ€™re excited to continue supporting interns in their journey to success.

As a founder, Ronald brings a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for helping students and professionals find the perfect internship opportunities to get job-ready. He understands that real-world experience can’t be gained from textbooks alone, and heโ€™s dedicated to ensuring that every intern leaves with the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Sasha, our dedicated Candidate Manager, is the first point of contact for anyone joining New Zealand Internships. With her friendly and approachable nature, she ensures a smooth and welcoming introduction to our program. Beyond being the initial guide, Sasha also plays a key role in helping with placements, ensuring that each candidate finds the right opportunity to thrive.

Sarah, who leads our placements at New Zealand Internships, is dedicated to matching candidates with the ideal opportunities. In addition to overseeing placements, she also conducts the orientation for new candidates, ensuring they feel confident and prepared as they embark on their internship journey.
